Hong Kong and Macau 2015

On this page, I put videos and links to other blog pages related to our holidays in Hong Kong.

One trip was in March 2015, during March school holidays. A quick-getaway, to take advantage of a cheap Scoot flight.

The fight to Hong Kong was on FlyScoot (TZ 220), departing from Changi Airport Terminal 2.

On a second trip to Hong Kong, we flew with Tigerair, also departing from Changi Terminal 2.

We arrived in Hong Kong early in the morning.  After a quick breakfast at the airport, we took the Airport Express A21 into Hong Kong.

On the second trip for 2015, we also took the Citybus A21 into Hong Kong.  Video below shows you snippets of the bus trip.

Eaton Hotel (380 Nathan Road)
For the first trip, we stayed at Eaton Hotel for 2 nights.  We stayed in a Family Room (just nice for the 4 of us).  This video shows you the room, as well as some parts of the hotel surroundings, including a Tai Chi master.

Hotel Panorama by Rhombus
For the second trip, we tried a different hotel.  This time it was Hotel Panorama by Rhombus, which is very near East Tsim Sha Tsui station.  We alighted at Citybus A21 stop number 16 for a short walk to the hotel.  Next to Hotel Panorama is a relatively new K11 Art Mall, where we can get groceries.

Food-wise, we tried several local joints.

Jenny Bakery (Cookies) - Buying cookies from Jenny Bakery was an experience in itself.  Check out my blog page on the experience!  The cookies tasted good and the lines have to be seen to be believed.

Tim Ho Wan (One Michelin Star)- We tried the Michelin Star outlet at Sham Shui Po as well as at the Central station.  These were very satisfying meals indeed.  Their char siew buns are famous. Cost-wise, fairly reasonable.  Be prepared for long queues if you go during peak hours.  On one trip, we went there for dinner, and the lines were short.

Australian Dairy Company - Another local place for breakfast.  We read so much about it, so decided to give it a try.  It was a 10 minute walk from the Eaton Hotel.  Not difficult to find.

Tsui Wah - local cha chan ting.  There was a Tsui Wah just opposite Eaton Hotel concierge drop-off. We ate there twice, once for some dinner and for breakfast. (Our room rate did not come with breakfast)

Temple Street - very close to the Eaton Hotel, just a 5-minute walk.  A great place to go if you want to soak up the local street market atmosphere.  However, we did not buy anything, just came here for a walk.  Saw a good number of foreigners (Caucasians) walking around.

Sham Shui Po Wholesale Stores and Street Markets - If you want to shop, I would recommend going to the Sham Shui Po area where there are many wholesale stores and street markets.  From Eaton Hotel, we took a taxi to the Tim Ho Wan at Sham Shui Po (Michelin Star), had Dim Sum breakfast, and then walked to this area to buy stuff (including fake Lego).  In this video, my kids show you the fake Lego we bought.

Star Ferry & Victoria Peak
We took the Star Ferry from Kowloon Side to Hong Kong.  Thereafter, we took the cheapest way to get up to Victoria Peak, which was Citybus number 15 and spent a bit of time at the peak.  It was very hot and we hid in the Peak Galleria. Overall, it was a fun outing.  This blog post contains many videos of the journey.

Ocean Park
One of the highlights of our HK visit was the day out to Ocean Park.  I detailed our visit in the following blog posts.

a. Part 1- Travel to Ocean Park, Cable Car Ride, Bumper Car and Whirly Bird
b. Part 2 - Penguins, Walruses, Lunch and Roller Coaster
c. Part 3 - Dolphin show and Shark exhibit
d. Part 4 - Pandas Le Le and Ying Ying

It was a fun day in Ocean Park, even though there was so much walking to do.  Fortunately for us, the park wasn't very crowded when we were there.

Overnight Trip to Macau
We took a whirlwind overnight trip to Macau, staying just one night at the Holiday Inn, Cotai Strip. Here are my blog posts.

a. Macau, Part 1 - Ferry Ride to Holiday Inn Cotai Strip & the Venetian Shoppes
b. Macau, Part 2 - Lord Stow's Egg tarts, Macau Galaxy
c. Macau, Part 3 - Shrekfast, Cotai Strip

The Shrekfast breakfast event was pretty cool.

Trip back to Singapore (FlyScoot delayed)
From Macau, we headed back to Hong Kong and stayed for one night at the Regal Airport Hotel. The journey home was exciting because the FlyScoot plane was severely delayed.  Check out my blog post for more information.

Thanks for reading!
